Saw this news flashing all over the internet from the morning and I was not much amazed as I was hearing of this since last week . But again , how many people are going to use it ?? There are lots of things to be kept in mind.
As per my experience , I stay in Dubai , where 3g network is readily available . But , browsing internet over a 3g network doest come over an unlimited data plan. Its charged based on data download ( sending and receiving of data ).
So that means opening a simple Yahoo home page (www.yahoo.com) using mobile may charge you somewhat near to 1$ .
Have a look at operation of youtube video on mobile
I have experienced mobile TV over 3g network as I subscribed to get the feel. I got Mobile TV as a package for around 10$ / month . I checked the amount of data transfer for a 10 minute video was nearly around 10 MB; which , if not in Mobile TV package could have cost me around 30$ . Moreover it was a disappointing experience as quality of video was not all that great , and video was getting stuck in between due to fluctuation between 3g network and GSM.
Hence in current scenario , it might be same case with youtube also for the following reasons :
- Unavailability of 3g network everywhere.
- Unavailability of Unlimited data package over 3g network across the world.
- Watching video on mobile for long gives a lot of strain to eyes ( I think more than a desktop PC )
- Watching video over 3g network , depletes the battery at much faster rate.
- Video may get stuck in between due to fluctuation between 3g network and GSM.
- Video Buffering may take long time depending on the speed of network.
- Video might not be clear for different screen resolution on different mobiles
