It appears this year has been one of cooperation between technology giants. It was AMD and Microsoft technical collaboration on windows 7, then NOKIA and Discovery Communication on content and now Verizon Wireless and gateway on the LT2016u. This partnership is of great interest because both companies are big names in the tech world and the product in question is anew concept that many manufacturers are trying to promote. It has been suggests that such collaborations benefit the two companies in the long term – they are able to cut costs and product better products.

    Gateway Netbook

But this collaboration has a different tone to it – Gateway will incorporate a Verizon Wireless Broadband service in the PC. Many attempts have been made by phone companies to incorporate third part service like YouTube in their products but one offering an entire broadband suite in a Notebook is not common.

    Will this benefit Consumers ??

How does this arrangement benefit consumers? Well, they will not have to depend on availability of WIFI to use the internet or obtain data services. Once they are logged on to Verizon, they simply begin working. Gateway is noted for producing super quality machines so the implication is, you have high speed 3G access on a reliable PC everywhere you go.

Let’s look at some of the features of the new Gateway Netbook. The machine has a WSVGA LED backlit TFT LCD display and works on Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor. People have complained about the 1GB RAM but for a Netbook where there isn’t much to do, it appears sufficient. Multimedia enthusiasts will welcome the Digital media card reader and the integrated 0.3-megapixel webcam

The Netbook was however produced in one color – black. This may be the bad side of the product. Again, the Wireless connectivity was limited to 802.11 b/g. Analysts believe that Wireless N should have been added to the Netbook will be able to take advantage of future high speeds.

How about collaborating with Nokia on booklet 3g ?

There are no monthly bills for just owning a netbook. They don’t come with an internet connection though. You’ll have to already have an internet connection. Netbooks are generally just for browsing the internet, but I’d imagine it wouldn’t be too slow for using Word. Just make sure you get one with atleast 1GB of RAM.

Netbooks do not have a built in DVD, so loading and saving software is not as straightforward as a laptop. If size is your absolute priority, then get one. Other than that they offer no advantages over a laptop, other than being marginally cheaper.

They have great electronics. If you live in a state where they have a superstore please go. It’s like the Home Depot or Costco of electronics. All of the computers refurbished or not have warranties. Good Luck.

They cost about the same to run as any other computer. The difference in power drawn is negligible in terms of money.
