Now finding out a direction wont be a problem for people staying or passing San Francisco Bay Area and the greater metro areas of New York City and Los Angeles in US. Dialdirections will get you the directions on the go.

As reported by SFgate :
Dial Directions differs from other services in that it doesn’t require a GPS-enabled phone or charge a monthly service fee. Customers do not have to buy a Web plan for their phones. And there’s no button pushing involved to enter in addresses, a step that often slows the search for directions. The service is free, but includes a short advertisement at the end of the text message.
This seems to be pretty interesting service, and lets wait for it to become available worldwide .

IMO, I don;t think this can be a GPS killer. I might be a good option / alternative for lower end people.!
@bendict … you are right !! but wont it drop the sales of GPS ..when such a zero cost option if available.
