I am not sure how true is the above shown picture by it may just turn into reality. When tata announced that they will be launching the 1 lakh rupee car (approx. $2500 - $3000) by 2008 , it sounded pretty impossible and the claims were even marked as fake. Rediff also reported way back in 2005 that it could be an automatic car. But now there seem to be certain buzz all around as the marked deadline is coming near.

What do you think ?? Tata will able to do it as shown as the specs which look really good !! 26 Kmpl with 660 - 700 cc engine and costing around 1 lakh to 1.25 lakh ?? Seems like once turned into reality , this car might be the cheapest car in the world !!

The issue though is, will Tata be able to stick to the Rs.1 (or the range) consistently, with the inflation in the market on everything - including the raw materials.
And if it did bring out a car at Rs.1 lakh, I am not sure why I do not get the point. Because Maruthi (with Suzuki) did bring out OMNI that costed around the same range in 90s.
@vyoma , totally agree. One of my uncle bought Omni for 85k somewhere in 1985-87. Lets wait and watch how far tata’s can stick to its claim with cost of living gone so high

its not jus 4 months away. tata announces its comming in june-2008. and price will be 1.10-1.30 lac on road . approx for both models

Most of the people who posted teh coments above are stupid. TATA 1 Lac car is a reality and i am sure all the dogs which are barking now will shut their mouths

i am really impressed with brilliant and smart work of ratan tata. i am 100% sure that this is gointo create new world record. and regarding its market, i thing it have a good market in india for family car as well as it can suite best to replace old designed autoricksaw with good looking and more efficient car.
@mayur, how feasible and how true is the concept only time will tell, so lets keep finger crossed and hope what all you said comes out true

yeah i agree with you 100% … his contribution to indian society is really worth noting , from a morning tata- tea till evening coming back from office in a Indica … its just in our daily life. Anyways one lakh car getting released tomorrrow
