Speed Up Your Windows XP by customizing Visual Effects

    Window XP, is visually advanced compared to other older versions and same is the case with Wndows Vista. I dont know whether the same way you can customize windows Vista also , but this little customization can make your windows XP a little speedy.

    Here are the steps :

    1. Go to System properties by either right clicking My-Computer and selecting Properties or using window key + break key combination.

    2. You will end up in a screen like this. Select Advanced tab as shown below.

    3. Select settings at Performance frame.

    4.You will find a screen as shown below. Select the third radio button which says “Adjust for Best performance” . This will uncheck all checked boxed.

    5. Scroll down and check the last three check boxes which enables Themes , Shadow under desktop icons and common tasks pane. You are done and Select “OK” in all open windows.

    Its done !! This will take off all the animations while minimizing and maximizing windows and other visual effects , taking off little burden from your CPU and RAM.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the useful info, we can also speed up windows vista with the steps that you configure in windows xp. But if you really want speedup windows xp or vista, is recommended that upgrade the memory.

    Visual effects take up more memory, its better to avoid effect if you have a less RAM. But with 512 MB RAM, i guess its ok to have effects.

    @nirmal… hmm , I have 512 , but still i feel my computer turns faster if i turn off visual effects as i have tons of programs installed :-(

    Yep! Good one, I’ve ‘em disabled on my PC always. Currently I have 256MB RAM only, so will go for them only when I get 512 + LOL :D

    I actually like my eye candy. I am not a gamer so it doesn’t really bother me. You would probably get the idea when you see my desktops.
