So the highly awaited Sony Xperia, phone is all set to launch on October 30th 2008 , in UK. However, the price of £599.99 seems a bit high, but considering the initial hype a phone creates, before getting launched, any price is justifiable.

You can preorder this mobile on play.com and they will deliver it for free. I wonder they deliver it outside UK …..

  1. The price seems to be really high. :(

  2. yeah > 1000$ .. however … 30th Oct is very far ..and I dont think there is any need for preorder… After all its not an Iphone

  3. Since there is no official price or release date from SE, this could against be just rumours like the ones previously we had on pre order. I have a feeling that SE wont put the price too high especially after 2 quarters of no profit, they are looking into sales from XPERIA. Anyways lets wait and see. BTW looks like India will sell the costliest iPhones, again it seems to be a rumour, will be out in another 3-4 days.

  4. Actually looking at the site, it looks like a legit site… the Dealers are normally informed first of the release … but again they try to cash the situation … I still remember N80 was available for preorder for 4000AED around a month before its release…but was released for 3500AED at launch …

Anyways lets wait and watch ..

However, I feel Iphone is costly or not .. we can only decide based on the 3g data plans…

  5. @Kanak,
iPhone prices are out and its 31k and 36k for 8GB and 16GB without any data plans. I dont think in any way its worth that price. Airtel has clearly mentioned in another press release that they dont want to subsidize iPhone like in US ($199) and then take the rest of amount in call rates and data plans. In short iPhone has never been cheap.

  6. @Nirmal,
Yes, 31K and 36K are really worthless when we compare putting the same on Nokia or Sony Ericsson phones. I dont want to pay that much for just a easy user interface. hmmm… May be we can go for Techno-rich devices instead. :)

  7. @nirmal
    @harishankar

Agree to both of you .. Iphone is overpriced in India. Wonder why these operators did that ..

I think its time someone unlock the 3g Iphone …. however as of me . i have dropped Iphone .. and decided to be still Faithful to Nokia. :-D

  8. @Kanak,
Well If you have the thought that Vodafone and Airtel have increased it, then its a wrong thought. Airtel has already mentioned that they dont want to subsidize the handset and then get the rest of money from calls and data transfers like in US. They also mentioned that Apple is not ready to lower its margin on iPhone and more over Airtel and Vodafone are also here to make some money, not Apple alone.

  9. Thats true Nirmal, I too read it in some article that Airtel has mentioned it. And I feel its true that they are right in their decision in India.

  10. @nirmal
but dont you think that airtel could have given other options also… may be which could be better utilized by co-operate world.
Just that Airtel didnt want to take chance, they know in India people will somehow get it unlocked by buying it cheap from airtel .. :-) hence airtel loosing out money …

However .. vodaphone is planning to give Iphone on installment plan … Seems a good option :-D

  11. @Kanak,
Installment is a good option, but with installment, the 36k could reach 40k with interest rates, vodafone is getting into Tie up with ICICI bank.
What I feel is Airtel does not want to promote a product, where they get into loss, when someone gets an iPhone unlocked, I think Apple will lose money and not Airtel.

    • I wonder .. if Iphone is unlocked .. means it must have been bought from US market .. or some or the other way ..where apple has already got money from the service provider ..

Airtel must be having a stock of Iphones bought from Apple .. Now if Airtel end up selling no Iphones because unlocked is available at less price .. I doubt Apple will actually lose money …

Istallment is always a way of attracting customer .. who know Vodaphone may tie up with some bank to provide 6 months interest free installments :-D .. possibility .. however unlikely though

  12. I read that this product has special connector which even walkman series does not use it. X1 use 3,5mm audio connector. The normal size is 2,5mm.

  13. Yes, if hacked it should be like buying it outside India and hacking it to use in any network. But this is already popular, I have seen people using iPhones in Chennai before it was released, but may be it was not the 3G version.
