Overall, the appliance stands great especially with its innovative GPS in built capability. Many think that the cam has many features that outperform its contemporaries. For example the optical image stabilizer that will allow the device to produce sharp images even when the hands of the user tremble just at point that the shutter activates. The new handycam features an import from digital cameras too – the face detection technology that makes sure that scenes recorded have humans in them. Perhaps the skin tone adjustment feature tops all the exciting capabilities this camera comes with. This feature will be great for magazine producers or editors who need to do a little modification here and there to get the right skin coloration frothier clients. With a 15X zoom, users can obtain shots from a place far off the subject; making it conducive for use in areas where close up shots may not be advised. The handycam is also fitted with the smile shutter that takes a picture the subject just when a smile occurs.

To single out the GPS, it is the first ever in a handycam. This feature may be of immense benefits to movie makers or the production unit. It shows you where the video as recorded. It can even determine the exact point at which a still picture as taken. Industry experts believe this will help with scene management and assist producers make accurate editing.

This handycam from Sony  is one piece of innovation that will yield better benefits if the GPS tags can be supported on editing software. For now the GPS feature will only recognize tags if working from the device itself.

Just that with its size, you can not use it as spy video recording gadget. ;-)

If your camcorder is MiniDV or Digital8 tape based, and if you can get a firewire port added to that computer (does it have a PCMCIA slot available?) then it would be best to transfer video and audio using a firewire cable and the camcorder’s DV port connected with a firewire cable to the computer’s firewire port.

Convert the mpg video files to MP4 or MOV. When the conversion is done, quit MPEG StreamClip and launch iMovie. Drag the converted video files to the Capture area. Edit.
