Pocket sized Mobile Projector turn into reality : Projector phone move closer to reality

Time is not far when your mobile phone will come with a projector to play power point presentations, or movies directly focused on a wall or any other surface. Its not something which is very far. Microvision has developed pico projector displays prototype of a handheld, battery-powered, ‘plug-and-play’ projector based on ? single micro-mirror laser scanning display technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas.

Code-named SHOW, the new pico projector is intended for mobile devices.

SHOW is said to directly connect to laptops, mobile phones, portable media players, digital cameras and other mobile devices to project high-resolution images and video onto any surface.

The following video from gizmodo will prove what I am talking about :

The images projected can range anywhere from 12 inches (30 cm) to 100 inches (2.5 m) in size depending upon the projection distance. More importantly, the projected images are always in focus due to the specifics of the laser technology used.

The retail version of the device is expected to offer approximately 2.5 hours of continuous battery life, sufficient to watch a full-length movie without a need for recharging. Microvision reports that SHOW can project a DVD quality image with up to WVGA (848 X 480 pixels) resolution.

This device is plug and play and can be connected with mobile phones ( as shown in the image below ). I dont think it will take much time, when this technology will come inbuilt in mobile phones, and with the leader in mobile technology, I have this feeling that Nokia will be the first one to implement this.

Nokia’s high end Nseries phones like ( N93 , N95 etc) comes with a TV out cable, where you can connect your phone with a TV and enjoy the videos , photos etc on a large screen. You can copy a whole movie in the phone and watch it using the software smartmovie and it really eliminates the need of a dvd player.

Now with the implementation of such technology, I think the worst hit companies will be the one creating box size projectors. With mobile phone having the capability to play powerpoint presentations and display PDF files, upcoming inclusion of projection capabilities will surely turn the concept of mobile phones into mobile office.

  1. Another device integrated into mobile phones. But this projector is too much for now. When we are still worried for a development standard common for all mobile phones. ;)

  2. Hey its not a big thing to do when the piece of hardware is already manufactured .. Currently you can connect is as a plug and play device to a mobile phone, keeping the size in mind, it wont be difficult to implement it in a mobile phone :)

  3. great gadget.. I think it will really be the most wanted gadget in the future.

  4. @Kanak
I was screaming about the development standards for mobile phone software development. Its like hell today, when we have to write a common program that can run on many phones. That too when we write some hardware oriented stuff, people really cry. :( At this point Google has come up with one more standard named it android. Most developers would worry about it than being excited. :)

  5. Was dreaming who are the right people who’ll use this phone. The marketing people, they’ll take a presentation in their phone and demo a product even on the move. Train or flight or just anywhere. :)

  6. @roffi , yeah , this gadget once integrated into phone will make the phone also a must have.

@smackall : yeah development standards. I can agree 100% . Its much like when designing website you have to take care of IE6 , IE7 , opera , mozilla as it has to work properly at all the browsers. I know the amount of pain is 100 times more while developing a software and taking care of hardware standards. Seems like android is full of bugs and SDK is still not proper. This gadget will be very useful for anyone working for company. Power of displaying a presentation anywhere will be a added advantage. Remember those fwded mails will at times nice presentation over some philosophy , or some document full of jokes etc etc. It will be fun to have them ready to show it anyone. :D

@techbliss , thanks for the stumble buddy :)
