Nokia 5800 updated to v30.0.011 , No notable changes other than Homescreen email

Nokia 5800 firmware update

Nokia 5800 aka nokia tube has got a huge firmware update .. not in terms of features , but in term of version number. Nokia 5800 updates from version v21.2.025 to v30.0.011. Normally, such a huge jump on version number came with big expectations of

  1. Kinetic Scrolling in web browser.
  2. New widget enabled homescreen.

These features look pretty small but were amongst the top awaited features for Nokia 5800 users. However, Nokia decided the other way, even though they gave a big bump in the version number, the only feature noticed till now is the New Email Alert at the home screen as shown in the screen shot below.

I have a long list of complaints with Nokia 5800, out of which , none has been addressed in this update. The most important for me is the album management and the option to mark multiple items with ease, and many small tit bits which do affect a good user experience.

However, I hope with such a bump in version number, Nokia must have done some improvement internally, which might provide a platform for the availability of missing feature in near future. Fingers crossed :-D

Nokia 5800 update is available over the air, i.e. type *#0000# on your mobile keypad, go to options and check for updates. This update comes with User Data Protection, hence there no need to take backup, however, taking backup is recommended.

  1. i had updated my nokia 5800, and yes, u r right, it is as same as before, nothing changed…

  2. I had a software problem with my damn new Nokia phone and the service center stupids literally messed up the equipment and it has become a piece of crap now. It was well within the warranty period and still these guys could not even fix it and now say that it cannot be fixed at all since they burnt some piece of hardware in it. With this horrible support that NOkia provides I would never dare to buy another Nokia equipment in India. And the law systems are so horrible too that I do not want to go to the courts. Raj.
