Heard the news at techcrunch?? Myspace has deleted around 29,000 accounts of convicted sex offenders !! Isnt that a Huge Number ??? Well !! it seems its more than 4 times what was assumed by Myspace initially ( around 7000 ).
Myspace is still the most criticized community site with lots of people using it to satisfy there sexual needs.
But what about the second most popular site “ORKUT” . Hardly anyone might be unaware of this !! Well !! Orkut is on verge of getting blocked in many countries including India, due to its complete failure in fighting porn and other social malpractices.
Open scraps , open profiles in beginning seemed like a cool feature , but finally ended in a big disaster. Boyfriends who got cheated by there girlfriends took revenge by creating profile of their girlfriends uploading objectionable photographs ,content and giving out there mobile phone numbers. More or less becoming like a revenge taking platform.
Thousand of communities dealing with just pornographic material changed the whole aim of some people of logging into Orkut. Recently after the “DUBAI SEX” community got published in UAE’s newspaper, the government took no time asking the ISP to block orkut, leaving thousands of people disappointed who found their lost friends in Orkut. Even though there are ways to unblock orkut , i wonder till when they will be available.
Well !! I hope Orkut also takes a lesson from Myspace and takes appropriate action for these kinds of profiles and communities. Atleast it will strengthen people’s demand of unblocking Orkut at UAE!!

This is really a serious problem, but there is no one way to prevent it. Deleting accounts will only be a temporary solution. Those can be created again.
@nirmal, yeah deleting account could be a temporary solution , but normally now they have options to block the ips, which prevent things to some extent , another option could be enhanced reporting methodology where anyone can report any page , profile , or community for orkut’s review.
Anyway some solution must be there , let google do some goooooogling about it
Thats a pretty bad situation, i think Orkut has got to delete accounts and block these kind of communities on Orkut, but to be honest i dont use any social site seriously i do have an account on Orkut and MySpace too but i check them may be like after a week or so,,,
@minty , same here, I dont have account in Myspace … moreover I was pretty inactive in orkut also ..but after orkut got blocked … i was much active in finding the solution how to unblock it
