MWC 2009 : Nokia to Launch 8mp camera phone and App Store, no 12mp from Samsung

So here is another round of updates from Nokia and Samsung for the much awaited event MWC 2009. With just couple of days to see the event kickstarted, seems like Nokia fans are gonna have a blast and Samsung fans will need little anti depression pills.

However, this news hasn’t come as a very big surprise for me , as I almost predicted a big announcement from Nokia and also was very doubtful about the release of 12 mp camera phone by Samsung.

8 mp camera phone via nokia

Talking about nokia first, the news is finally out in form of teaser picture posted on a 2009 nseries blog. I have always been a fan of Nokia for their marketing strategy and I think its a great lesson to be learnt from Nokia that

How to officially leak a handset, without publishing any image (those blurry ones ) of the phone.

So here is the picture which was posted on Nseries blog ( this is the resized version, click on the image for the actual picture ) with the details that this has been taken from a new Nokia Nseries device.

The pixel resolution ( 2448 X 3264 ) clearly signifies that its taken from a nearly 8Mp camera.

I was actually waiting for something to be leaked out , but I never thought that it would in such a teaser format . As I wrote in my prediction about Nokia in mwc 2009, this is the best time for Nokia to roll out touchscreen handset after a groundbreaking success of the first Symbian touch device: The Nokia 5800. Also, since many mobile phone manufacturers are already sitting on the wagon wheel of 8Mp camera phone, it doesn’t make sense for Nokia to wait more, as they lost a market by a delayed launch of Nokia 5800.

However, as stated on the blog the announcements are going to take place on coming Monday or Tuesday so lets keep our fingers crossed. Lets hope a more than couple of nokia touchscreen phones.

Nokia application store

Before its news on internet , its Reuters ( as stated by nokia ) . So , reuters has confirmed that nokia is planning to launch its new app store on MWC 2009.

Research firm Strategy Analytics forecasts the value of the mobile content market — including downloadable games, ringtones, wallpapers, video, mobile TV, text alerts and mobile web browsing — to grow 18 percent to $67 billion this year.

Nokia will unveil its download store next week at the Mobile World Congress trade show, two industry sources told Reuters. The company will hold a press conference on Monday at 0900 GMT.

Nokia promised in early December to launch its own download store “soon,” as the Finnish firm merges its software Download! store with free media sharing site Mosh and widget service WidSets.

Following the actual footsteps of apple , I am sure Nokia app store will be a great hit with millions of Symbian users worldwide. But again, price of the application will matter a lot and I hope nokia dont mess it up on this.

No 12mp Camera phone from Samsung

Again while writing about predictions on MWC 2009 , I was surprised about the rumor that was going around about the 12MP camera via Samsung. Samsung InnoV8 (the 8MP camera phone) came with a hefty price tag,and obviously the 12mp was sure to bypass that price tag. In this current world of economic downtime, it wont be a good idea to launch a product with a hefty price tag. As reported

Samsung has no plan to introduce a 12-megapixel camera phone at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. It seems that the Korean mobile phone maker not only denied rumors about the 12MP handset, but also stated that it wouldn’t unveil any Android-based handset at the show, as we already reported a few days ago.

On the other hand, the fact that the company will not come with the handsets at the mobile show does not mean that it is not working on them. As reported before, Samsung has pushed the release of a handset running under the Android platform for the second half of the year. The phone manufacturer didn’t give any official explanations for its move.
