Multitouch interface is no longer limited to mobile phones. Microsoft brought multitouch to a coffee table with Microsoft Surface and its researchers have done a great job to bring this technology to laptop screens without much change in the existing hardware.

Microsoft Research Cambridge’s Steve Hodges has come up with a solution which is remarkably simple yet effective. With an off-the-shelf laptop, he retrofitted some infrared sensors on the back and together with the magic of software, you have multi-touch.
