  • I was reading the news that Motorola has joined hands with Kodak to make camera phones better and easier to use. This seems to be a good move , but final product will only be able to give the exact picture about the actual success of the deal.

It has become so habitual for me reading and hearing about the megapixel race taking place between mobile big brothers like Nokia , Sony , Samsung , LG etc etc etc …. Is it really worth ??? Buying a mobile as a substitute for a camera …is it really worth ??

Yeah at times , but not nokia

Today we see Nokia’s multimedia beast N95

nokia N95 boasts 5 MP camera on the device . Look at this picture below from mobile-review.com

    nokia n95
zoom it to 100 % and you will see the limitation of a camera mobile . The image algorithm seems like has gone out of control giving a watercolor effect to the picture and tearing up the pixels.

All the manufactures boast on the megapixels whereas the quality of the picture remains the same as a cheap digital camera.
Soon after N95 ,Sony which was finding itself stuck with 3.2 MP , released K810 with 5 MP so as to compete with Nokia N95. Whatever it is :

A mobile camera can never replace a digital camera which has been built for a specific purpose.

This statement of mine , might be proved false in near future taking into consideration the technological advancement in gadgets, specially mobiles.

Sony Ericsson ( you can give cybershot a go )

Sony ericsson camera’s you can really give it a go. Cybershot series will definitely give you a good picture quality but still cant compete to digital cameras.

    Limitations in mobile cameras

If you think about a digital camera , there are so many limitations in a mobile camera

    1. Slow functioning because of slow processing speed.
    2. No Xenon flash to take good pictures at night.
    3. No Image Stablization.
    4. Noise in pictures , Less clarity
    5. No autofocus assist lamp to focus in dark.
    6. Night mode not much effective.
    —— and many more.

Camera on a mobile adds to its cost, and will help you at times when you forget your personal digicam, but not in all lighting conditions.

Mobile camera reviews !!! How good they are

This all came from the review of Nokia N95 , I read on Mobile-review where I was unable to find pictures of humans taken by nokia N95.
After all , we dont buy a camera of shoot houses , streets etc etc .
    1. You should ask me , y i am so particular about human faces !!! because thats where how good the camera is can be tested. Human face has so many curves , how does a camera classify and finally produce it on screen, votes for the camera.
    2. Dont judge the camera on close up pictures - I saw so many mobile camera reviewers will be mainly showing the closeup pictures taken by the camera. If the distance is not that high !!! mobile camera will surely perform exceptionally good in terms of producing the details.

My request with these sites will be to take some human pictures with a distance of 5-6 meters along with the other pictures so as to give a clear idea how a camera can actually perform.

I wish the manufactures of mobile camera’s can pump some really good quality of camera in mobile phones rather than jumping for megapixel race.

Think twice before buying a mobile just to have a nice high mp camera.
