Before you jump up your chair and shout out ” I need one !! ” , calm down, there are many waiting just as you.

Limited to Virtual Reality Strategic games and Movies, the idea was actually taken seriously by Scientists, till they created a material which can actually make you invisible. The concept is proven and Scientists and Researchers at University of California, Berkeley say they are a step closer to developing materials that could render people and objects invisible.

Researchers have demonstrated for the first time they were able to cloak three-dimensional objects using artificially engineered materials that redirect light around the objects. Previously, they only have been able to cloak very thin two-dimensional objects

“Metamaterials” hold the key

Metamaterials are mixtures of metal and circuit board materials such as ceramic, Teflon or fiber composite. They are designed to bend visible light in a way that ordinary materials don’t. Scientists are trying to use them to bend light around objects so they don’t create reflections or shadows.

The Concept

People can see objects because they scatter the light that strikes them, reflecting some of it back to the eye. Cloaking uses materials, known as metamaterials, to deflect radar, light or other waves around an object, like water flowing around a smooth rock in a stream.

So here the concept is very clear , instead of reflecting , make the light bend hence, object becomes nearly invisible.

However, I have a doubt here, may be the readers can clarify or tell me if I am wrong. Bending the light can not actually make the object invisible, the object gets invisible when the light pass through it completed without getting reflected. If, light is absorbed fully without getting reflected, we get a black color. I wonder even if turned into reality , it will actually find any real usage. I mean, the cloak is made up of invisible material, but humans are not. So, I wonder, its actually gonna used by humans.

I was driving back home, where I heard one RJ ( RJ Gaurav, City 101.6 : radio channel) talking about this invisibility cloak. He made some interesting comments about this invisibility cloak ( assuming that, it will actually make human Invisible ) which were actually Funny PJs . Here they goes.

• If your Boss hate to see your face in office, istead of firing you out of job, he will ask you to wear this invisibility cloak and come to office from the next day.
• If you want to take revenge on some of your colleague ( who you know is sitting on his chair wearing this invisibility cloak ), go ahead and hit or sit on him, and save yourself by giving the excuse “Oops Sorry!! I didnt see you”
• Like designer wear, there will be designer fashionable invisibility cloaks available in the market.
• Some people like to expose certain parts of their body. There will be cloaks available which will expose only certain parts of your body leaving the whole body invisible.
