Guys at google are known for doing something new always. And following the same , a new image version of google news is available now. You can see the link on the main page of google news or you can visit the link directly here.
The moment you hover on any image , the right sidebar automatically scrolls up , displaying a snippet of the news.
This seems to be very innovative thinking as many people search the news related to celebrities , politicians etc and hence the quick look on the images can save lot of time in scrolling and searching the news.
As far as I noticed, this image search is only for the main page and not available for the news categories. Quite possible it might be available in near future.
In addition to the image version , a text version of news is also available which shows only the text headlines with a excerpt without any images.

I hope you are aware of google’s enhanced image search where you can customize the search based on the content type based on human faces also, along with filetype , size and color etc.
