TomTom and Garmin, leading names in GPS units, seem to be at innovation war with each other. When you thought you had seen the very latest from one, the other introduces you with a more advanced version. I just now posted about tomtom go 740 live GPS , and Garmin was prepared with something in its store.

    Garmin Nuvi 255W GPS

This time Garmin introduces the super fast Nuvi 255W GPS with one striking feature – the Where Am I report which can be very handy in times of emergency. The Where Am I feature will instantly notify you of your current position and any essential services close by. The feature is very useful when driving in unknown terrains.

Just when the industry thought TomTom had caused stirs in the market with its LIVE Services, Garmin brings in the NUVI 255W. Garmin improved on the interface on this GPS that no technical people can easily understand the instructions and display. The screen is also large enough to be read from afar. If you need to constantly scan the road, you have the option of instructions and navigational points read for you. For drivers, the street announcement feature marks a grate improvement over previous GPS types.

The Mini USB port is one capability that provides a convenient charging and connectivity for other devices.

    Shortcomings

The Nuvi has one shortcoming – the set is too bulky. This makes installation a burden and renders the device less portable. Again, there aren’t many features which may be the reason why it sells at a lower price than the competition.

This new GPS from Garmin looks much like previous versions except the innovative Where Am I feature and the quick loading data. Drivers can count on fast access to data and reports when driving on busy roads where they do not have much time to scan the device interface. The most notable of this feature is the ability of the system to execute commands even when the LCD has not fully displayed your text.
