Forget TV remote : Hand gestures are enough to control

There are times when you misplace your television remote control , and you will wander from bedroom to kitchen searching for it !!! Now no more , as Australian Scientists have come up with something called gesture monitor box , which has the ability to identify you particular hand gesture to control the television.

How it works ??

The box has a built in camera which can recognize upto 7 simple gestures and also can work upto 8 different gadgets.The device is designed to sit on a shelf or table which has a clear line of sight to the television and the owner.Its software recognises simple, deliberate hand gestures and then sends the appropriate signal to a universal remote control, designed to work with most makes of television, video recorder, DVD player, hi-fi and digital set-top box.

Interesting !! But what gestures it Identifies ??

A clenched fist means “start”, an outstretched hand with closed fingers means “power on”, a thumbs-up sign means “up” and a sideways victory sign means “channel”.

Moreover, with small children, pets or gesticulating family members, the software can distinguish between real commands and unintentional gestures.

Remember the latest Nintendo wii ?? It had a peculiar feature where just turning the wireless joystick control will make your car turn !!
Technology is getting smarter day by day .. and making humans lazier and lazier. We need to wait for some other extra information , like, the range the distance it works , lighting conditions , visual alignment etc. Since the project is in initial stage of development and prototype were tested perfectly , it may take around 2 to 3 years to be available worldwide with lots and lots of extra features.
