Compact Digital cameras ready to compete with SLR cameras

Its not much time after Nikon released its 10 megapixel camera P5000 and Sony DSC-W200 (12.1 MP sesor) ,with features close to a normal SLR camera, Panasonic have also jumped into the race releasing the first compact digital camera with 12.2 MP sensor.

Nikon P5000

The P5000 boasts 10 effective megapixels, a 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor glass lens, an optical viewfinder, and a high resolution 2.5-inch LCD monitor with anti-reflection coating. The P5000 incorporates a new advanced image processing engine, which optimizes low light performance and color reproduction, and Nikon’s optical VR image stabilization, which compensates for camera shake.

“The COOLPIX P5000 was designed for the photographer who enjoys a high level of control, advanced imaging technologies and the ability to take creative control of their photography,” says Bill Giordano, General Manager Marketing, COOLPIX for Nikon Inc. “The P5000 will be compatible with system-expanding accessories that will allow photographers take their creativity and images to new heights.”

With 10 megapixels of resolution, photographers can capture the finest details in their images, as well as have the ability to crop creatively and produce large prints. The 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor glass lens provides compositional versatility when zooming in for tight close ups or zooming out to capture expansive landscapes.

The VR stabilizes images displayed on the 2.5 inch LCD, which makes it easier to frame and capture images. Another advantage of the optical VR image stabilization is that it helps achieve smoother action in the movie shooting modes of the P5000 and when using the optional TC-3ED Tele converter with 378mm of telephoto performance.

Panasonic DMC-FX100 , 12.2 MP Digital compact camera

Panasonic has added the compact DMC-FX100 to its LUMIX family of digital cameras featuring 12.2MP with a 28mm wide-angle. The launch comes only a few days after Sony announced the DSC-W200 , that was touted to be the first compact camera with 12.1MP sensors.

The 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC lens features 3.6x optical zoom, f/2.8 brightness, 1/1.72-inch large CCD and Intelligent Image Stabilization with Mega O.I.S. and Intelligent ISO Control. The LUMIX DMC-FX100 is also equipped with a 2.5-inch LCD screen.

The camera also includes the Intelligent Image Stabilization technology to counter blurring. This system comprises two features – MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) and Intelligent ISO Control. Together the features help capture photos by compensating for the effects of hand-shake and image movement.

“With an impressive 12.2 megapixel resolution power, a 28mm wide angle lens and Intelligent Image Stabilization, the DMC-FX100 is raising the bar for the entire compact, point-and-shoot class.”

The DMC-FX100 also introduces flash with reach up to 16 meters, high-speed burst shooting, which allows consecutive shooting at a speed of eight shots per second and a new high sensitivity mode in which ISO 6400 recording is realized. The DMC-FX100 can also record 1920 x 1080 high-definition still pictures and 1280 x 720 at 15 frames per second motion pictures, for viewing on 16:9 High Definition Plasmas

Sony DSC-W200 Cyber-shot 12.1 MP camera

Sony has announced, what it claims to be the first compact camera with 12.1 megapixel sensors. The DSC-W200 Cyber-shot features 3X Optical Zoom and is expected to ship on or before May 18, 2007. At 91 x 58.5 x 27.3 mm, 173g, the W200 boasts of a high ISO sensitivity of upto 6400.

Apart from being a 12.1 MP camera, the DSC-W200 features high sensitivity for shooting without a flash even in very low light. It also includes features like Face Detection, D-range optimization, and in-camera retouching and red-eye reduction. It comes with a 2.5-inch LCD screen and High Definition output for compatible HDTV screens.

Other features include a 9-Point Auto Focus, D-Range Optimization, Optical Viewfinder and 31MB Internal Memory.
