We all are worried about the life threatening risk which mobile radiation cause to human being. However, studies have not yet proved that how much effect does cell phone radiation has on human being, but the same is proved on Honey bees in Kerala , a state in India. It seems the harmful electro magnetic radiations from mobile towers have a potential to kill the worker bees that go out to collect nectar from flowers.

As per the initial test carried out, a plunge in beehive population has been reported from different parts of Kerala and if measures are not taken to check mushrooming of mobile powers, bees could be wiped out from Kerala within a decade, environmentalist and Reader in Zoology, Dr Sainudeen Pattazhy says in his study.

In one of his experiments he found that when a mobile phone was kept near a beehive it resulted in collapse of the colony in five to 10 days, with the worker bees failing to return home, leaving the hives with just queens, eggs and hive-bound immature bees.

Even though this problem is a big one, I wonder there is any solution available for the same. If electromagnetic waves can cause this much rish to honey bees, how much it might affect the humans. I feel its better that to whichever extent possible, avoid the usage of cell phones.

The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute used cameras to continuously observe light vehicle drivers and truckers for more than 6 million miles. It found that when drivers of heavy trucks texted, their collision risk was 23 times greater than when not texting.

Dialing a cell phone and using or reaching for an electronic device increased risk of collision about 6 times in cars and trucks.

Now, after Giz revealed the real reason why the sms are of 160 character , I found it real hard to digest as according to them

Apparently, it’s because some German dude thought 160 was "perfectly sufficient."

Friedham Hillebrand was a communications researcher who was working with a group on developing a standard for cellphones to send and receive text messages. So he sat down on his typewriter and banged out a bunch of random sentences and questions, counted up the number of characters it took, and decided 160 was the magic number.

I am not sure , whether this is the real reason , but it made me Google a bit, and I found the answer at Mattcopp’s blog. He explained it quite clearly

The issue is that it is a limitation of the GSM system. GSM is the name for the way in which almost all mobile phones communicate. The actual length of a text message is 256 characters or letters (the term characters are more exact because numbers are not letters and neither is % or #).
Now an SMS needs to have contained within itself who sent the message, when it was sent and who it is going too, these are called overheads and take up exactly 96 characters, which is why you end up with 160 characters left. (256-96=160).

On a side note, each character is sent as an 8bit binary number — you know those 1s and 0s everyone is talking about — meaning you have a maximum of 256 types of characters. This gives you just enough room for all upper and lower case letters (2 * 26), numbers (0-9), a range of symbols ({}[]-+£$%) and some control characters (space, return, null). This is an internationally recognized standard specified as the ASCII standard.

When ever you boot your system launch any program on your system, system resources allocated with that particular application will be loaded as well. The task manager will have details about each of the application alive at any point (or we assume so).

Make SIP (PC to phone ) Calls via Google Talk Using Freecall or Intervoip account

Yeah , its sound too good to be true. The best thing, I like about Google talk is that it can connect through my office network where all other IM services are blocked. Moreover, I can make PC to PC calls too. However, you can very easily extend this functionality to make PC to phone calls via Google Talk using your Intervoip or FreeCall account. Following is the procedure to do it :

Step1 : Register for Gtalk2Voip account. Click here to know more about it and how to do it. It will just take seconds for you to register.

Step2 : Click on the SERVICE BOT in your GoogleTalk and send “MYPAGE”. A link will be displayed and you can click it to reach your personalized page.

Step3 : Choose Define your own SIP providers,

Select “ADD” your SIP accounts as in the following:

Username – your existing SIP account name;
Pasword - password for your existing SIP account;
Confirm password – repeat your password;
Host – SIP server/proxy domain name.

In case of INTERVOIP its sip.intervoip.com and incase of FREECALLS its sip.voiparound.com

Port – Leave it as it is (5060), else check your provider for details.

Techprefix – Add ‘+’ or ‘00′ (without the quotes). This is used to skip prefixing ‘+’ or ‘00′ before an international number while making a call.

Step4 : Press Save to save the changes.

Step5 : Go back to your Home on personal account page and choose Define your dialing plan.

Step6 : Press Add to add new dialing entry

Fill-in the form, including:
Order – order number, used to select this dialing entry when callling, values are: [1 - 1000]. 1 means “choose me first”.
Prefix – leave blank.
Select Provider which will be used to route calls to this destination. Your user-defined SIP accounts will be in the very top of the list. If some of your SIP accounts not present, that means they are temporary off (see Enable option for SIP accounts above).
Set Enable checkbox to enable this entry. This option can be used to temporary disable the dialing entry.

Step7 : Press Save to save the changes

Step8 : Log out of Google Talk and Log in again.

Step9 :Click on the SERVICE bot again and type:
Call . Please note the number should be in international format without ‘+’ or ‘00′ prefix. For Ex: To call to UAE mobile number use CALL 97150XXXXXXX , where XXXXXXX denote the number.

Step10 : Accept the incoming call from service bot and wait for it to connect you to the number.

Thats all, now you can use GoogleTalk to make PC to Phone VOIP calls using your Intervoip or FreeCalls Account .

Please note : You can type COST to check the rate via Gtalk2voip. Most of the times, you will be able to get good deal than your existing PC to Phone Voip Provider.

Make SIP (mobile to phone ) Calls via Talkonaut Using Freecall or Intervoip account

Sometime back I posted , how to make VOIP calls from mobile using SIP . However , due to the complicated structure of inbuilt SIP settings , we used one of best mobile voip software called Fring.

Here we will learn how to make VOIP calls using SIP via Talkonaut , one of the best alternative of Fring. Since Talkonaut is the mobile client provided by Gtalk2voip , the process is exactly the same, i.e add SIP client and chose it as the default Dialling plan.

Step 1 : Download Talkonaut and install it in your mobile. Visit get.talkonaut.com on your mobile else www.talkonaut.com

Step 2 : Login with your Google Talk id.

Step 3 : Go to MENU , and Click SIP and select SIP accounts.

Step 4 : Click ADD from the MENU.

Step 5 : Select Others from the options.

Step 6 : Add the account details as shown in the ScreenShot or as shown in STEP 3 for Gtalk2voip in Googletalk, and save the details

Step 7 :In the MENU select DIALING PLAN , and Add details.

Step 8 : Select CALL number option from the MENU to make VOIP calls from your mobile.

I am using Talkonaut to make calls from my Nokia 5800 . The voice clarity is very good and is just like calling via PC. You can not carry your PC everytime, but having such a useful option on your mobile, will enable you make low cost voip calls anywhere and anytime.

I was just reading the article in India Today, where they mentioned 10 simple ways of saving fuel. I found the article very useful and thought of sharing it with my readers. So here it goes :

1. Drive easy within the prescribed speed limits. Take off your leg from the clutch pedal after changing the gear, and also avoid hard acceleration. Driving at a highest gear ( depending on speed ) makes the engine spins at a lesser rpm and hence giving you a better fuel economy.
2. Tyre Pressure is another important factor. Make sure the tyres are inflated properly and also are properly aligned for better fuel economy and safer driving.
3. Get your vehicle serviced properly and at the right time, so that the Car’s engine is healthy and hence burn less fuel. It will even save your maintenance cost for the vehicle.
4. If possible try avoiding rush hour traffic. If by leaving 30 minutes early can help you avoiding a lot of traffic, then its always better to do so. Battling traffic everyday is even bad for your health.
   For shopping, choose early morning at weekends. This will help you save time on road while going out for shopping.
5. Slow Down in advance when you see a red signal or when you are approaching your destination. This will avoid usage of sudden brake and also will help you maintain safe distance from other vehicles.
6. Switch off your AC 5 minutes before your reach your destination as Car remain cool for that much distance. Use good quality sun films (which reduce solar energy upto 50% ) from getting your car heated up.
7. Try to combine different chores at the same travel , rather than postponing them to different time. Ex : While driving back to office you can go to bank , shop grocery etc which you might have planned later.
8. Keep your car clean especially during monsoon season. The muck that sticks to the car add to weight and hence increase the drag as well. Cleaning your car will prevent rusting and also will cost save you in longer run.
9. The most important, fill your car in the coldest part of the day i.e mornings. As cold fuel has maximum density , hence you get more fuel for same reading than you would while filling it on a hot day. Also,fill it at a place you trust, so that you know what you are paying for.
10. Prevent carrying stuff which you use once in a while, in your car everyday. Travel light as much as possible which will help reduce fuel consumption. The more light your car is more fuel you can save.
11. Finally, follow lane discipline to prevent traveling distance and accidents , keep your car’s emission checked at regular interval and avoid add too many accessories to the car which again increase weight.

Fring to the rescue

At first,I tried to setup internet call access point using the default settings available in my Nokia Mobile. No matter, how much i tried, it didnt setup as the phone always failed to register to the SIP server.

Suddenly, it strike me to try using Fring ( download here ), as it do support SIP server. It amazed me with the simplicity.
Username , password and the SIP server are the details you have to fill in and your phone will turn into a SIP phone. It registered within seconds and I was able to make calls to my friend’s cell. However , there was small delay , but again the voice clarity was just too good.

To setup Intervoip on your mobile phone using Fring, follow the following steps :

1. After logging into Fring, go to Options — > Manage Communities and select SIP.

2. Select the Other options as Intervoip is not there in the list of default providers.

3. Enter your yourusername@intervoip.com and password and server enter : sip.intervoip.com

4. Select Ok, Fring will register within seconds and now you are ready to make SIP calls from your mobile phone.

5. Your friends can even see your status and call you directly on your mobile phone using the intervoip desktop application.

As I always said, Using Fring you can exploit your phone’s capability to the max. Hence, happy voip(ing) and fringing.
