Things seem pretty fine now. DNS propagation also seem to be completely over. Anyways, if you are able to see this post in feed reader, and tecfre.com returns a blank page, please do let me know at kanak (@) tecfre (dot) com.

    Bye bye dreamhost

Dreamhost gave this blog a good startup. It started all way back when my friend Arpit gave me the promotional code for dreamhost signup and I got the one year hosting plan for just 20$. I never took any problem seriously, until the begining of year , 2008. Pingdom sent me so many notification emails regarding the downtime of the site, that finally, I decided to move.

The day i decided to move, I got a e-mail regarding some billing stuff. Since the email was quite weird as the year mentioned was 2009, I decided to ignore it. And the same day evening i got an apology mail with subject “Accidental Billing” from dreamhost. Now this one was pretty funny. I am sorry dreamhost for sharing it with my readers. Here it goes ,

    Hi Kanak!

Ack. Through a COMPLETE bumbling on our part, we’ve accidentally attempted to charge you for the ENTIRE year of 2008 (and probably 2009!) ALREADY (it was all due to a fat finger)!

We’re really really realllly embarassed about this, but you have nothing to worry about. Please ignore any confusing billing messages you may have received recently; we’ve already removed all those bum future charges on your account (#…….) and fixed everything up.

Thank you very very much for your patience with this.. we PROMISE this won’t happen again. There’s no need to reply to this message unless of course you have any other questions at all!

    Sincerely,
    The Foolish DreamHost Billing Team!

This made me realize that something seriously wrong has happened and little google made me aware of this 7.5 million dollar mistake by dreamhost. Seems like January is gonna be worst month for dreamhost. I am glad I moved out before things freeze.

Blog movement gave me an added opportunity to upgade to wordpress 2.3.2 . Everything worked fine but today I discovered that my contact page stopped working, anyways I found an alternative plugin for the traditional contact form. :)

Are you also planning to move to bluehost ??

So I am giving bluehost a try and hopefully within few days I will be able to post whether it was a good move or not. Anyways, if you are also planning to move to bluehost, I recommend you to signup using my bluehost affiliate link at the sidebar or by clicking here. :)

Last but not the least, thanks a ton Ram for the support you gave in movement. You were really a great help.

Hey Kanak, I m using dreamhost and it seems to be getting slower and slower.

They also charged my credit card for 2 years!!! u know that part :(

Plz do post comparative results of movement to bluehost. Some of my friends are on bluehost, they are good… but they are known to suspend accounts for silly reasons.

    @Kanak,
    We’ll have a deal:

I am planning to move my hosting from yahoo to Bluehost. Coz, of the problem I have with them. These yahoo guys don’t have an instant response for any of my problems. They answer my email after 2 days. I recently had my db server down for 3 days.

Let me explain our usage. We have around 300 visitors per day for our site using MySQL as back-end, and that is not all we am afraid of. coz we are running a multiplayer server for mobile games and acts as a webserver for many applications. Even a 10 min downtime will affect a lot of our client’s services. So I need a 24/7 customer service and > 99% uptime.

I have already tried IXWebHosting and Yahoo webhosting.
IX guys had good customer service, but a bad web hosting experience, as my hosting stuck within a server with a max load and they worried to move my server.

Now, give me a solutions on this. and I’ll definitely go through the affiliate link, even if you had not requested. I already clicked through and went to the last stage of registration but just thought I would ask your suggestion before doing it. :)

[...] But luck was with us and we found the pretty good flat finally. Now shifting the flat is another nightmare, I think much bigger than shifting a webhost. [...]
