Blackle is not related to google !! Get over it

I think this is kinda a biggest misconception prevailing over the web world ( I also fell in trap ). Earth hour has again sparked this misconception where bloggers posting about usage of blackle to conserve energy and also, its by Google. Its clearly mentioned in Google’s official blog and also on Blackle that it uses Google’s Custom Search and is not related to Google ( quite possible a money making website with google adsense ) .

Blackle Saves Engery ?? No !! It might increase consumption

Second misconception, Blackle saves energy. Yeah must have saved a little amount of energy when CRT monitors were used, but with LCD monitors coming into picture everywhere, Blackle might just increase energy Consumption. Again this is at Google’s Official Blog and is proved with certain tests here. The same Google post suggest you small steps which can help you in saving Power. One idea, suggested by the site called “Blackle” (which is not related to Google, by the way, though the site does use our custom search engine), is to reduce energy used by monitors by providing search with a black background. We applaud the spirit of the idea, but our own analysis as well as that of others shows that making the Google homepage black will not reduce energy consumption. To the contrary, on flat-panel monitors (already estimated to be 75% of the market), displaying black may actually increase energy usage. Detailed results from a new study confirm this.

Google support blackle by going black at earth hour

This has again sparked misconception. The above image posted at Googlified, indicate that google went black during earth hour. Many people again got a misconception that this is in support for blackle and hence black surely reduce energy consumption.
Well, Google going black at earth hour, was a mere promotion for the event reminding people to switch off the lights between 8pm to 9pm on March 29th. With thousands of people logging into google every minute, I dont think there was better way of reminding.

I hope my readers will get rid of all these misconceptions and will take serious measure for energy consumption to the extent possible. Switching off lights during earth hour is kinda a eye opener to many that, we can live without power for some time atleast. Celebrating earth hour everyday is very difficult, but yeah switching off unnecessary lights anytime will surely mark your contribution to make our Earth a better place in future.
