If this claim by Apple Corp is true , I wonder how the other mobile companies are going to cope up with this . We all know , smart phones are power hungry, and no smart phone as of now has the capability of providing talk time of more than 4 to 5 hours max , in real time usage condition; no matter what all are the manufacture company’s claim.

    iphone

Iphone , claimed to be the most hyped mobile smartphone , with a revolutionary user interface has got everything to beat the existing mobile phone. It can also be defined as a trendsetter for the , much required multi touch UI for smartphones. It has got followers like LG prada , HTC touch etc.

People were much concerned about two things :

    1. Battery Power for Iphone : As we all know , Iphone is the product of Apple Corp. – world wide producer of Mac notebooks( which deal with serious battery Issues). Hence , the same was excepted in for Iphone also as it was said that apply will have nearly 40 mins of talk time. The claims were hilarious but quite believable keeping in mind the reputation of Apple in terms of battery life.

    2. Iphone will be prone to scratches
    – Thats a normal concern of a mobile phone user. Scratches on a mobile phone make it look old , and depresses the owner. Again , this was a major concern as it was manufactured by the same company which manufacture Ipods which lack scratch resistant screens. Hence , no reason for not the expect the same from Iphone.

But today concerned were addressed by Apple® as they announced that :

iPhone™ will deliver significantly longer battery life when it ships on June 29 than was originally estimated when iPhone was unveiled in January.

iPhone will feature up to 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback or 24 hours of audio playback. In addition, iPhone will feature up to 250 hours—more than 10 days—of standby time. Apple also announced that the entire top surface of iPhone, including its stunning 3.5-inch display, has been upgraded from plastic to optical-quality glass to achieve a superior level of scratch resistance and optical clarity.

Specifically pointed out the same by Steve jobs :

With 8 hours of talk time, and 24 hours of audio playback, iPhone’s battery life is longer than any other ‘Smartphone’ and even longer than most MP3 players,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’ve also upgraded iPhone’s entire top surface from plastic to optical-quality glass for superior scratch resistance and clarity. There has never been a phone like iPhone, and we can’t wait to get this truly magical product into the hands of customers starting just 11 days from today.

    Pricing was also announced

iPhone will be available in the US on June 29, 2007 in a 4GB model for $499 (US) and an 8GB model for $599 (US), and will work with either a PC or Mac®. iPhone will be sold in the US through Apple’s retail and online stores, and through AT&T’s select retail stores.

As far as I feel , $499 for 4GB iphone is quite decent. Moreover , I hope this would have taken off some points from paul’s list of not buying an Iphone , which I saw at arpit’s post.

    Iphone rocks :-D
