    You may ask whats there in a “New Tab” button when you have a shortcut Ctrl + T , else you can go through a traditional way of opening a new tab. Go to standard menu — File–> “New tab” and voila, you got one.

    There are lots and lots of Apple fan who will happily accept this solution without complaining even once, but not me. Just that I am so used to of using a mouse that I hardly use my laptop’s touch pad. A touch pad can never compete with mouse (same like Sony cant compete with Nokia — oops, did I make someone angry ?? ) and hence I find it pretty hard to use a key combination or an extra click to open a new tab.

    And guess what, nightmare for a new user, they have put a button which exactly look like a new tab button, but work as “Add bookmark”. I clicked it couple of times before getting used to the fact that there is no new tab button. Thank god !! I still have IE and Mozilla intact. :D ..

    I wonder what could be the reason for apple to choose “Add bookmark” button than selecting “New Tab” button in world’s fastest browser. Considering the reputation which apple has, they like to do things differently ( duping itunes users to download safari ?? hmmmm ), but this different thing made me switch back to Mozilla !!!

    Anyways, if anyone know why there is no “New Tab” button in Safari, do let me know !!

    Downloaded world’s fastest browser in less than a minute

    I was pretty surprised too see my download speed. After moving to new place, and getting the internet connection re-activated, I never knew that I got > 2mbps connection :D .

    Agreed on this one! I don’t really think there is any need for a bookmarking button. After all, we don’t bookmark all the pages we visit, but don’t we open a new tab to view each page?

    As far as design goes, there should have been a new tab button (I find keyboard shortcuts much much easier though)

    @EmmaS ,
    yeah you are right , I dont think speed matters as it differs in millisecs … and also site by site.

    @smackall,
    heheheheh :) .. lets wait and watch

    @nirmal

    great point made. I wish some apple guys were reading this. I also find keyboard shortcuts pretty handy while using MS word or similar editors. But while browsing ..I find mouse usage pretty simple ..:)

    I agree that new tab button is frustrating for a new user but you’ll get to it. Also in a Mac you’ll use keyboard shortcut more than mouse.

    Also do you know that if you click the empty spaces in the tab bar, Safari will open a new tab. ;)

    Also when you use Safari in Leopard, the north pointer in the Safari (icon) will always point north (only in motion sensors Macs) . :D

    With some so many anti-Apple/Mac stuff rant, I think you’re going to own a Mac soon. :P

    yeah it was a bit frustrating, Hey I tried clicking on empty spaces in safari , No luck ( might work in Mac though ) , but do work with firefox and IE too. And hey thats a cool info, about pointer pointing north :)

    And yeah .. you guessed it right :P !! I Am just saving some money, to get a mac .. but considering the expenses I am having, I think I have to wait till October :( .

    Hmm.. so it might work in a Mac version only. Safari Mac is more powerful and sleeker than Windows Version.

    Regarding browsers you should use which you’re conformable with, not because Apple says so. :)

    If you’re waiting till october, then wait till Apple updates it’s MacBook Air/Pro range of products. I’m sure we can see Blu Ray, Core 2 Quad MacBooks in the next update. :D

    ohh great .. if thats the case , then I am waiting for the new ones … I think its worth waiting as I already have core2duo , it doesnt make sense to go for the same CPU. :D

    Hi Kanak, I totally agree about the problem with Apple Safari not including a new tab button. I myself got confused with the Add Favorites button many times. Its a great browser, but for someone who researches a lot on the net, like you said, using CTRL+T, or a menu dropdown list, is not something I like. Am using Maxthon, until Safari comes to their senses. AOL Explorer is also nice, however, the “open new tab” option is blanked out! Let us know if Safari does indeed include the button. Will change in a flash!

    @shiv
    After publishing this post, couple of days later apple has rolled out 3.1 version of Safari in which you can get new tab by double cliking the toolbar. same option is in IE and Firefox too.
