This seems to be a year of celebrations. After 25th anniversary of smiley and 15th birthday of sms , its time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Nokia Communicators with the availability of Nokia E90 .
Have a look at the first communicator launched by nokia in 1996
with the latest E90 released in 2007
If you go through wikipedia you will find some specs of older communicators with the one available now.
1. Nokia 9000 launched in 1996
Nokia 9000 Communicator was the first in Nokia’s Communicator series, introduced in 1996. The phone was huge and heavy (397 g) . The Communicator part is driven by an Intel 24 MHz 386 CPU. It has 8 MB of memory, which is divided between applications (4 MB), program memory (2 MB) and user data (2 MB). The operating system is Geos 3.0 .
Gosh !! cant believe such kind of device ever existed in Nokia’s product catalog.
2. Nokia 9110
Specification almost similar to nokia 9000 with 253g weight and AMD 486 processor.
3. Nokia 9210
The Nokia 9210 Communicator is a third generation Communicator series smartphone produced by Nokia, introduced in 2000. It greatly improved on the second generation Nokia 9110, providing colour main screen, changing to Symbian OS platform and ARM processor. It is one of the few mobile phones able to send and receive fax.
4. Nokia 9500
The 9500 is a highly capable communications device with 150MHZ OMAP processor and 64 MB ram, designed as a worktool for the busy executive or e-worker. Connectivity features include: Bluetooth, Infrared, USB, Wi-Fi, CSD, HSCSD, GPRS and EDGE. It comes with a built-in fax machine and multi-account POP3/IMAP email client.
5. Nokia E90
Does this device need any introduction ?? Well most of you must be aware of this amazing device which is now available on sale. The price tag of near $800 - $900 makes it a bit costly.
A small preview of nokia E90 was posted long before with two video reviews of Nokia E90 some days back. It is also seen that it can support upto 8gb sandisk card.
As per Wikipedia Nokia 9300 and 9300i were not considered as communicators officially. They are very similar to nokia 9500 but a little smaller in size.

The 1996 communicator model looks somewhat like a suitcase. Nokia sure has come a long way since then!
